I grew up in Kingston, Ontario loving horses for as long as I can remember. My grandmother used to drive me around and knock on people's doors to see if I could pet their horses!! I was blessed with a pony of my own along with years of riding lessons. Horses were always a safe space for me mentally. They never judged, always listened and made me a more confident young woman.
Fast forward 20 years and I was now married, moved back to Kingston from Ottawa and found myself feeling completely lost and my world crumbling around me. Over a 10 year period I had gained 100 lbs and was chronically in pain, depressed and had no energy. In speaking with a Social Worker it was suggested I find something that was just for me. It had been years since I had been around horses for more than a fleeting moment, and a visit to a friend's barn proved THAT is what I needed. I found a family farm to lease a beautiful mare named Dolly. Dolly was my healer. She was a lead mare in the herd but seemed calm, compassionate and nurturing with me. Through many tears and many hours in the field with her my heart and soul healed.
I was feeling up for a bigger challenge and that is when I met my current Equine partner, Texas. He was a WHOLE DIFFERENT energy! He needed a Leader or he would take that position upon himself. Texas challenged me to be stronger and more confident. He pushed me to want more for myself and to want to be in a better physical state to care for him. So, in 2020 I had Bariatric surgery and lost over 100lbs. On July 28, 2021 I got back in the saddle again after 17+ years, and it felt incredible .

I completed my training with the Equine Connection in July 2020 and hold my programs out of a facility just north of Odessa, Ontario.
I have the privilege of working with some incredible current and retired "schoolies" (horses who do riding lessons for a living) of Treasure Valley Ranch.
We work with horses for multiple reasons. The main ones being they are prey animals with highly attuned senses. They do not judge and only respond to the current moment. They require leadership to feel safe and force us to be truly present .
